Reflections of Place
A painting exhibition at the Barrington Public Library in September and October 2026.
The places we love have a way of staying with us. Sometimes breathtaking beauty draws us in; other times it’s an unexpected moment when light, weather, or the season reveals a place in a new way. Reflections of Place brings together paintings inspired by the New England coast and countryside, and by travels to northern England and Cornwall—places that have left a lasting impression on me.
Many of these paintings began outdoors, painted en plein air, where changing conditions sharpen observation and require quick decisions. Others evolved later in the studio, where I could refine the composition while preserving the immediacy of that first encounter. Whether it’s sunlight sparkling on ocean waves, colorful boats reflected in tidal sand, or the quiet glow of marsh grasses in autumn, my goal is not simply to record a scene, but to express the feeling of being there.
I hope these paintings invite viewers to pause, remember places they love, and perhaps discover something familiar in landscapes both near and far.
